Newly Qualified Teachers

Partners in Learning are now responsible for the administration of the NQT Appropriate Body on the behalf of Doncaster Council. We are currently supporting over 250 NQTs and their mentors/induction tutors in Doncaster. We are passionate about developing highly effective practitioners and leaders from the moment they are registered with our team. We also offer a comprehensive range of professional learning opportunities and guidance to enable NQTs in all phases to successfully complete induction. For only ONLY £100 per term per NQT, for Enhanced Members or £120 per term per NQT for Core Members you will have access to: - Co-ordination, processing and moderation of Statutory Assessment forms each term. - Welcome Event in September for Headteachers, Governors, Induction Tutors and NQTs - Revised NQT Documentation - Mentor Training - Mentor Network each term - NQT Network each term

Introduction of Maths Mastery for NQT/RQTs

An introduction to the 5 elements of Maths Mastery and the Concrete Pictorial Abstract approaches to understanding maths. Specific key stage activities to use the Mastery approach and CPA ideas and activities.

By the end of the session participants will be able to....

  • Have a greater understanding of what Maths Mastery is and what it might look like in a range of classrooms.
  • Have a awareness of how to extend children within a maths lesson
  • Understanding of the Concrete Pictorial Abstract approach advocated by the teaching of Maths mastery
  • How to best develop the CPA approach in your classroom (even with limited resources)
  • Specific ideas related to each Key Stage

This half day course will taking place 08.11.17, from 4pm until 5:30pm at Toll Bar Primary School.

  • Recent and relevant action research into how teaching assistants can have most impact on learning.
  • The most effective ways of deploying teaching assistants in practice to ensure impact
  • How teaching assistants work effectively within the teaching team – via observation and discussion

  • Have a range of teaching and feedback models in which teaching assistants play a vital part.

Half day session to give an overview of the wholeness of the teaching of reading. This will include: Shared and guided reading, reciprocal reading, reading for pleasure and enjoyment, reading environments, reading leaders, reading assessment.

  • Know, understand and be able to use a range of techniques for engaging children in reading.
  • Make choices about approaches to use to maximise progress in reading.

New NQT Mentor Training

By the end of the day mentors will

  • have looked at the Statutory Guidance relating to Newly Qualified Teachers
  • have an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the school, the mentor, the NQT and the Appropriate Body
  • know what good induction looks line
  • have seen some samples of documentations
  • understand the place of the formal termly Assessment Reviews and Assessment forms
  • listened to practice in our schools from experienced mentors
  • have information about the Partners in Learning Offer for NQTs for 2017-2018

Lunch and refreshments will be provided for delegates. This session will be taking place on 10th January from 10am until 3pm at Plover Primary School.

Developing Teacher Programme

Partners in Learning are excited to announce we have developed a new programme for NQTs, RQTs and teachers in the early years of their career, which focuses on the enhancement of Teaching and Learning. Taking a similar format to the Improving Teacher Programme this will be a five week programme which consists of 4 half day and 1 full day session with set gap tasks after each session, focusing on:

  • Week 1: What makes effective teaching and learning?
  • Week 2: How do I challenge and engage pupils?
  • Week 3: What is the role of assessment in achieving pupil progress?
  • Week 4: What is effective questioning?
  • School based week 
  • Week 5: How can I develop my classroom provision including all adults?

Reasoning and Problem Solving with an aim to develop Mastery within class (NQT/RQTs)

Developing ideas for Reasoning and Problem solving within the Daily maths lesson. During the practical application element of the session staff will be split into Key Stages to enable them to get relevant resources and ask questions appropriate to their current class. 

By the end of the session participants will be able to....

  • Use practical tasks to embed reasoning within the daily maths lesson
  • What does planning look like for Reasoning and problem solving and how to assess it.
  • Have a range of strategies to determine understanding through reasoning.
  • Know about applying the subject knowledge (fluency) to be able to solve problems and visual representations to enable children to solve multi – step  problems (including a brief intro to Bar Modelling)

Uncharted Territories: Curriculum Adventures for NQT/RQTs

A day with Hywel Roberts and Dr Debra Kidd looking at how we can re-invigorate our curriculum offer through cutting edge approaches and tried and tested ideas.

This day will be appropriate for teachers, support teachers and leaders across all key stages and settings

  • 09:00am - Keynote: The Bedrock Curriculum – Dr Debra Kidd Unshackling the professional imagination
  • 10:00am - The Factory – building a context on which to hang learning followed by an opportunity to reflect

  • 11:00am - The Forest – creating a context, covering the coverage and sleeping well at night
  • 12:00pm - So what, now what? – a group activity picking up on themes and ideas that can be implemented tomorrow
  • 12:20pm - Lunch
  • 13:30pm - Active Keynote: Authentic Learning – Hywel Roberts Seeing the children in action, opportunities, possibilities, big questions and rich contexts
  • 14:10pm - Creative conversations with colleagues

NQT Session: An Audience with an Ofsted Inspector

This session will provide NQTs with the opportunity to gain an insight into what inspectors want to see within the classroom. This session will be led by Helen Lane who became an HMI in April 2013. She is a qualified teacher and has extensive senior leadership experience, including four years as a Headteacher. She has worked both as a School Improvement Advisor and as a Science Advisory teacher.

SEND Provision & Practice with a focus on provision for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (NQT/RQTs)

This training session will provide participants with an overview of the SEN code of Practice and how this impacts on their practice. Within the session there will also be a focus on how schools can support pupils with attachment and SEMH needs.

By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Understand the principles of the SEND Code of Practice and how these impact on practice.
  • Have an awareness of the range of provision for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Recognise how attachment can impact on a pupils behaviour and ability to 'settle to learn'
  • Begin to identify strategies that will support pupils with SEMH

This session will taking place 28.02.18, from 2pm until 5pm at Woodifeld Primary School.

New to Teaching Primary SCIENCE

Following fantastic feedback from NQTs in the 2016/17 cohort we have invited Tanya back to Doncaster.

This is an essential course for newly qualified primary teachers.  Science is a core part of the primary curriculum. Having lost its focus over the last few years many newly qualified teachers lack the experience of teaching and observing lessons in this subject.

This course will provide teachers with a range of exciting ideas to teach primary science.  It will also enable teachers to develop the confidence to plan and teach engaging and effective learning experiences for their pupils. 

Participants will be able to

  • Describe the background knowledge for the science curriculum
  • Use a variety of ideas and activities to teach primary science
  • Plan and manage the practical aspects of the science curriculum in their classrooms

This full day course will be taking place on 13.04.18, from 9am until 4pm with lunch and refreshments provided. This course will cost:
