Reasoning in KS2 Maths

This full day course will show how mathematical reasoning can be embedded in all KS2 Maths lessons, exploring how equipment and images can be used to build understanding and range of techniques for deepening learning will be shared. Make KS2 maths visual, engaging and deep!

Course Objectives

  • Use equipment and images to build conceptual understanding 
  • Enable all children to talk meaningfully about maths concepts
  • Use a range of resources to give children varied, deep mathematical challenges

Course Overview

This course will show teachers and subject leaders how reasoning can be weaved throughout KS2 maths curriculum. The 'Visual Representations Map' outlines how equipment, images and bar modelling build understanding for all children. We will explore a range of techniques for engaging the whole class in rich mathematical discussions. 

 This course will be taking place on Thursday 25th January 2018 from 9am until 3pm at Toll Bar Primary School. The session will be facilitated by Gareth Metcalfe (I See Maths Ltd).
