Special Educational Needs in Mainstream Schools - FREE Professional Learning for all Doncaster schools funded by Doncaster OA (Fully Booked)

Join us in exploring the recommendations of the EEF guidance report ‘Special Educational Needs in Mainstream Schools’ via a series of twilight webinars this Autumn. The sessions will be lead by Cheryl Gaughan, Head of Fusion TSA and Assistant Head of Talbot Specialist School & City-wide SENCo for SEND in Sheffield of Talbot Specialist School alongside a a group of Doncaster SENCOs who will be supporting and contributing to the discussions.

The guidance report acknowledges that;

‘the attainment gap between pupils with SEND and their peers is twice as big as the gap between pupils eligible for free school meals and their peers. However, pupils with SEND are also more than twice as likely to be eligible for free school meals.’ - (Professor Becky Francis, Chief Executive, EEF).

This is now even more important following the recovery period of COVID-19 for all schools in how they support all pupils returning to school but particularly those pupils with SEND.

The webinars will dive deeper into the guidance report and explore the 5 evidence based recommendations to support pupils with SEND in mainstream schools.

The 5 recommendations are-

  1. Create a positive and supportive environment for all pupils without exception.
  2. Build an ongoing holistic understanding of your pupils and their needs.
  3. Ensure all pupils have access to high quality teaching.
  4. Complement high quality teaching with carefully selected small group and one to one interventions.
  5. Work effectively with Teaching Assistants.

The webinars will include references to useful links to research, interventions, strategies, effective training/CPD and links with the Recovery Curriculum and Engagement Model.

There will be time for questions & answers with specialists in SEND and opportunities for discussion and sharing of practice locally and from across the region.

“The EEF is delighted to have been able to work with Partners in Learning and Doncaster schools on the ‘Making best use of Teaching Assistants’ project. The way the evidence has been brought ‘to life’ by bringing in expertise on school improvement, and drawing on local school examples, has been fantastic. Thank you to all the schools for the energy and commitment they have brought to the project. We look forward to working together on future collaborations".
