Health and Well-being for Early Career Teachers

As a teacher for twenty years, I know first-hand the passion and dedication we as teachers have in making a difference to young people and children’s lives. I also know that teaching is challenging and mentally, physically and emotionally exhausting!

Too many experienced and newly qualified teachers leave the profession each year because teaching is impacting negatively on their well-being. Understanding from the early days of your teaching career the importance of prioritising your well-being and building and embedding self-care habits into your daily life will make a huge difference.

Our young people and children need good teachers who are well, engaged and motivated and so taking the time to understand you own well-being and establish your own personalised well-being care will support you to build, sustain and thrive in your teaching career.

The virtual sessions will be one-and-a half-hours in length with the following dates available:

Thursday 28th January 2021 - 1pm until 2.30pm

Tuesday 16th February 2021 - 1pm until 2.30pm

Tuesday 9th March 2021 - 3.30pm until 5pm (TWILIGHT)

The sessions will include the following:

space and time to reflect on your own unique well-being

  • consider the different elements of well-being and what can affect these
  • understand the importance of prioritising your well-being in the short and long term as an individual and specifically as a teacher
  • understand stress and pressure: identifying triggers and strategies
  • become more self-aware and build resilience

“I really wanted to express how fantastic the NQT science training was yesterday. Tanya was a fantastic trainer and shared some great resources and ideas. As someone who hated science at school and isn't the most confident at teaching it; it inspired me to really think about how I could make my science lessons more creative and fun. I have already begun to implement some of the ideas and resources she shared in my Year 3 classroom and the children love it".
